Former Jersey Shore star to New Jersey Governor: Allow equal marriage or ‘I will come after you’
Former cast-member of the popular Jersey Shore television series JWoww has warned New Jersey Governor Chris Christie that she will “come after him”, over his opposition to equal marriage.
Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley addressed his opposition to equal marriage as his administration filed an emergency appeal against a ruling by Judge Mary Jacobson who said the state must allow equal marriage by 21 October.
Talking about Christie and his gay marriage views, Farley said: “I’m going to come after you,” in an interview with the New York Daily News. “If you have a problem with two people being in love, and you’re against gay marriage, I have a problem with you,” said Farley.
“What happens between two human beings has nothing to do with Chris Christie and does not affect Chris Christie. What does affect me is when my best friend can’t get married in New Jersey, and my best friend’s mother, who is a lesbian, can’t get married,” she continued.
Governor Christie maintains that the decision should be made by referendum, rather than politicians.
The US Supreme Court in June struck down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), and ruled that civil unions do not provide the same benefits as marriage.
Christie in June said the opposite, and that the strike-down of DOMA “was wrong”.
Alongside Pennsylvania, New Jersey was the only north east state where same-sex marriage is not legal.
