Cher, Alan Turing and Marc Almond honoured at Attitude Awards
The Attitude Awards took place this evening at the Royal Courts of Justice, as awards were given to Cher, Ellie Goulding, Alan Turing, Daniel Radcliffe and more.
The first ever Attitude Legend Award was given to Cher. On receiving her award, she told the audience of her relationship with her gay fans: “We’ve had a 50 year relationship…longer than I’ve ever had in my life”.
The Best Actor Award, was given to Daniel Radcliffe, and the The Stylish Man of the Year went to former rugby star Thom Evans.
Ellie Goulding was given the Music Award, following an acoustic performance of her single Burn. The Film Award, which was sponsored by Pop Chips, and followed with a video message from Michael Douglas.
The Best Groomed award went to fashion model Oliver Cheshire and the Style Hero award went to Patrick Cox.
The Active Award, presented by rugby star Gareth Thomas, went to Olympic long-jumper Greg Rutherford. Journalist Paris Lees, top of the Pink List 2013, presented the Media Recognition Award to Hollyoaks. Los Angeles got Destination of the Year.
Ally of the Year was rugby star Ben Cohen, and Politician of the Year was shared between all MPs who voted for equal marriage this year. It was accepted by Ed Miliband on behalf of those MPs.
Man of the Year was given to John Grant.
Mel and Sue of the Great British Bake Off were given the TV Personality of the Year Award, and Game of Thrones got the TV Show of the Year.
The Community Award was given to the Russian LGBT community. Attitude tweeted: “We stand in solidarity with them always.”
One Icon Award went to famed singer-songwriter Marc Almond, and the second was presented by Celia Imrie to Paul O’Grady.
The third Icon Award was presented posthumously to gay codebreaker and computer genius Alan Turing. It was accepted by two of his nieces, and was presented by the Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow.
The PinkNews Awards will take place next Wednesday 23 October at the invitation of Mr Bercow in the State Rooms at the Palace of Westminster.
The Attitude Awards were played out by Mutya, Kiesha, Siobhan, who did a DJ set.
