Rappers accuse Frank Ocean and Macklemore of using ‘gay agenda’ for fame
Two rappers have accused stars Macklemore and Frank Ocean of exploiting gay culture in order to get ahead in the music industry.
Speaking separately in two interviews for VladTV, Rugged Man and Lord Jamar both suggested that the two were taking advantage of gay issues, which were a “hot topic” in the US currently.
Macklemore released a track Same Love, which explores the issue of equal marriage in a positive way. Frank Ocean came out as bisexual when he revealed his first love was a man.
During his interview, Rugged Man says: “They are using that popular political agenda to move their careers forward.
“Franky Ocean, Okay, you came out the closet, but it’s a week before your album dropped.”
Lord Jamar went further to say that being gay has no place in hip hop, and that white rappers should not be allowed to air their views, but believes that rap is “gay friendly”.
After performing Same Love, Macklemore said: “Gay rights are human rights. There is no separation.”
The song Same Love, from the pair’s latest album, addresses Macklemore’s personal experiences and feelings around the issue of same-sex relationships and equal marriage, and features a video spanning the lives of a gay couple, including a happy marriage.
