US: Man justifies attack on lesbian sister by saying her relationship goes against Islam
A Muslim man in the US state of Nebraska has been charged with assault after he allegedly attacked his own sister and said her same-sex relationship was a disgrace to their family.
Ahmed Mohammed Tuma, 20, was arrested on 8 November for allegedly beating his 22-year-old sister and her fiancée along with accomplice Nathan Marks.
Tuma has also been charged with terrorism and hate crime offences in Lincoln, Nebraska.
“At first I didn’t know who it was,” said the victim to opposiingviews.com. “Then I finally realised it was my brother … he had a crowbar in his hand, he tried to hit me with it.”
She and her fiancée fled as Tuma reportedly chased them with the crowbar.
The two women managed to escape their attackers and get into their car. The men then allegedly hit the car with the bar and tried to push them into oncoming traffic.
“They were in fear for their lives,” said police officer Katie Flood. “Tuma had made some verbal threats to kill the sister.”
Tuma allegedly tried to attack his sister on the grounds that she’s in a same-sex relationship, which he says goes against their family’s Muslim beliefs. Tuma says that his sister is a disgrace to their family.
He is now in police custody along with Marks.
