Reporter who received anti-gay slur challenges Alec Baldwin to fight: ‘Why don’t we settle this like men?’
A reporter present during a recent tirade by actor Alec Baldwin during which he used homophobic slurs, has challenged him to a charity boxing match.
Actor Alec Baldwin was suspended from his MSNBC talk show after hurling anti-gay abuse against a New York photographer. Baldwin was condemned by GLAAD for a pattern of incidents during which he has used the slurs.
Kevin Fasick, of the New York Post, wrote a piece on Saturday challenging Baldwin to a fight, noting his own training by famed American boxer Smokin’ Joe Frazier.
In the piece, Fasick calls Baldwin an “empty wagon”, and “the Bloviator”. He says he would rather hold a boxing match with Baldwin, than file a police report. He alleges that he was shoved into a parked car by the star.
He goes on to say that GLAAD should receive the proceeds of the match, which he proposes be broadcast in place of Baldwin’s regular MSNBC show which has been suspended.
“But rather than making scenes on the street, why don’t we settle this like men — and do something right in the process.
“Meet me in the ring, Baldwin. All for a good cause.
“We can raise some cash for GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) — a group I am sure you support.
“I’ll even let you throw the first punch,” Fasick concludes.
In June, GLAAD gave Baldwin the benefit of the doubt after he apologised in an open letter calling a Daily Mail writer a “toxic little queen”:
“My ill-advised attack on George Stark of the Daily Mail had absolutely nothing to do with issues of anyone’s sexual orientation.
“My anger was directed at Mr Stark for blatantly lying and disseminating libelous information about my wife and her conduct at our friend’s funeral service. As someone who fights against homophobia, I apologize.”
In a series of tweets, Baldwin abused Mr Stark, urging his followers to “straighten out this f****ing little bitch.”
