Possession of rape porn will become punishable by up to three years in jail
New Government plans would mean that anybody found with pornography depicting rape, could be jailed for up to three years.
As the law currently stands, it is illegal to posses images of rape, however a legal loophole means possession of such material is currently impossible to punish. Websites depicting “simulated” gay rape are commonplace on the internet.
The new rules will be implemented in January and should bring England and Wales in line with the law in Scotland, where the offence carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison.
Prime Minister David Cameron, said the new plans will target websites showing images and videos of rape, whether the websites claim that the act is “simulated” or not.
Mr Cameron has previously condemned websites containing such media, saying: “They are quite simply poisonous to the young people who see them.”
In a crackdown on what Mr Cameron describe as “the darkest corners of the internet”, The Government will also announce tomorrow every illegal image will be given a label in a national database.
The new rules hope to mean that images of child abuse, rape and other illegal images, will be easier to remove from the internet.
