X Factor winner James Arthur quits Twitter after homophobic row
X Factor winner James Arthur has left Twitter following criticism for using homophobic language against another artist in a “rap feud”.
Comedian Matt Lucas was not impressed, and tweeted in response: “F*** you @JamesArthur23 for using the phrase ‘f***ing queer’ in your latest track. F*** you.”
The 25-year-old apologised on Sunday in a series of tweets, he said: ”I just have to say I’m extremely disappointed in myself for being so naive with the diss track I made for an unknown rapper recently… Some of the things said in this rap can be mistaken for homophobic slurs and I assure you homophobia is something I do not believe in I have many many gay friends”.
But on Monday Arthur announced he was quitting Twitter for good. “Learnt a lot this year. Hurt a lot this year… Loved a lot this year. Lost a lot this year. Roll on 2014.”
He added: “#LOVE to my fans but I’m coming off twitter.
“HQ will be doing all my tweets from now on. PEACE!”
James Arthur won X Factor last year.
