US: Borough president calls Brooklyn, NY the ‘lesbian capital’ of the Northeast
Brooklyn’s president, Marty Markowitz, lauded his district’s gay community and their contributions to the area by calling the borough the “lesbian capital” of the Northeast.
The borough head made these comments during an interview on WYNC, a New York City public radio station.
The democrat said: “We remain the lesbian capital of New York City and the Northeast. In other words, we have a much larger lesbian population in Brooklyn.
“New York City is fortunate to have a large LGBT community, but in Brooklyn in particular, the lesbian community — there’s no doubt, it’s the capital of the Northeast.”
Radio listeners cheered as Mr Markowitz said “they’ve made unbelievable contributions to the quality of life in our city and our borough”.
Mr. Markowitz’s latest term in office, which has spanned a total of 12 years, ends on 1st January 2014.
