Time Out London to lose LGBT specific section in restructure
The LGBT section of Time Out London’s print edition will no longer appear as a standalone category, and is to be integrated into other sections as part of a restructure.
Several other sections including classical music, dance and cabaret will also be featured only as part of other larger sections. LGBT will be absorbed into the Things to Do, Clubbing and Features.
Speaking to PinkNews, a Time Out spokesperson said the magazine and online listings would remain committed to providing information for the LGBT community, and that she hoped the restructure would mean listings would appeal to a higher audience.
Speaking for Time Out, Alex Batho said: “As always the most comprehensive coverage remain on the London edition of the Time Out website, which lists over 60,000 events and has over 6m monthly users. This change of layout within the Magazine will ensure a larger audience for all of the topics we cover and create greater flexibility for our advertisers.”
The former LGBT editor Paul Burston, who left the publication yesterday, told Pinknews that he still respected and trusted Time Out’s CEO Tim Arthur, and that other small sections, not just LGBT, were affected by the changes.
He said the issue of integrating sections regrettably came down to cost issues to do with running the magazine.
Time Out London was the first edition of the magazine to be published in 1968, and after years of paid subscriptions became free in September 2012.
