Daily Mail gets hot under the collar over sexy calendar featuring fake gay priests
The Daily Mail today appeared to get a bit flustered over a calendar featuring naked men posing as Orthodox priests with a long feature about the calendar.
The Romanian Orthodox 2014 calendar features models, some Romanian Orthodox Christians, posing as priests in suggestive poses.
The Daily Mail ran a substantial feature on the calendar, which is aimed at the gay market, and apparently to bring “hope joy and comfort” to the gay community.
This year’s calendar was released in celebration of equal marriage, however as far as PinkNews is aware, none of the funds raised go to an equal marriage campaign anywhere in the world.
On the Calendar’s website, the caption for the cover image reads: “When Father Aleksandar is lucky enough to be able to stay late in bed, he enjoys reading the Bible; his mornings are generally hard.”
For March’s “priest”, it says: “Father Andrii is the luckiest men [sic] in his parish. At home every day his breakfast is handmade by a skilled cook.”
The surprisingly in-depth Mail as well as scrutinising each month’s photograph, also went on to gauge reactions from Orthodox churches in several countries, and highlights the meaning behind the
It notes a Huffington Post article in which a source at the calendar says the models are not actually priests, and that the calendar “is not intended to be used for religious purposes.”
The Mail on to muse: “And indeed it has been. With bold colors, homoerotic undertones, OC’s artwork has drawn comparisons to American photographer David LaChapelle and French artists Pierre Gilles.”
