TV dating host suggests bisexual men don’t exist: ‘They’re all gay’
A US television host has caused criticism by suggesting that bisexual men do not exist.
The host of Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger, gave a backstage interview for the Bethenny Frankel TV show on Wednesday.
When asked whether she would marry a bisexual man, she said: “Uh, never! Never. Never.”
Explaining why she said: “If they’re bisexual, they’re gay!”
Various members of the gay community have responded with outrage with several Twitter users tweeting her to express their distaste at her comments.
One user Jessica Mahoney tweeted to say: “What is your problem with bi-sexuals? [sic] Nice to see that you buy & feed into stereotypes. Shame on anyone who supports bigotry.”
Ms Stanger has been criticised for her comments on bisexual people in the past.
In the second season of Millionaire Matchmaker, she asked a guest: “Do you want to marry a bisexual? Bisexual women are not the women you want to be the mother of your children.”
The show is currently in its seventh season, and debuted on Bravo in 2008. It matches actual male millionaires with successful women.
Ms Stanger claims to have a 99% success rate in her matches, but some have questioned this, given her apparent refusal to acknowledge the existence of bisexuals.
Jonahthan Higbee of Instinct magazine wrote a blog post saying: “You would think that someone as involved in the dating scene as bravo reality star Stanger would have experienced a personal evolution on the existence of bisexuals.”
She has also offended gay and Jewish men in the past.
In 2011 she appeared on Andy Cohen’s talk show What Happens Live, and said gay men can’t maintain monogamous relationships and that “Jewish men lie”.
The network issued an apology for the comments, distancing itself from her opinions.
