Vicky Pryce gave Chris Huhne two black eyes after suspecting his gay ‘liaisons’, court hears
Chris Huhne was given two black eyes and dragged through a window following an affair which made ex wife Vicky Pryce suspect that he was gay, a court has heard.
Southwark Crown Court heard that Pryce suspected that the disgraced former MP and former climate change secretary was gay after he left her for a bisexual female aide who she described as “a man”.
56-year-old part time judge and barrister Constance Briscoe, who has been suspended from the judiciary, is on trial for allegedly perverting the course of justice.
Former Lib Dem MP Mr Huhne and Miss Price were themselves jailed last year for perverting the course of justice, but during the investigation, Miss Briscoe was also charged with lying to police.
Speaking in her own defence, Briscoe, a neighbour of the couple, said that he had left Pryce for a bisexual aide, and when he returned she had attacked him.
Briscoe said: “Chris had come back to the crescent to see Vicky. She had punched him and blacked his eye.
“She dragged him through a window, she punched him a few times in the eye. We all saw it. When Chris had driven round to go back out, she had punched him again.”
She said that Huhne had worn make-up to cover up the two black eyes for television appearances.
She went on: “She felt extremely bitter about the marriage breaking up and she felt that the reason why the marriage had broken up was because of Chris and — can I say? — his sexuality.”
Claiming that Pryce believed her communications were being monitored by Huhne, Briscoe said she was asked to act as an intermediary between Pryce and the press about the transfer of speeding points from her then husband.
Miss Briscoe denies all charges. She faces three counts of perverting the course of justice – one charge alleges that she gave police inaccurate statements, the second that she deliberately produced an incorrect version of her witness statement for a defence expert and a third that she produced tampered-with copy of a statement.
The trial continues.
