Lance Bass offers forgiveness to TV star who said gays are ‘perverts’
Former NSYNC star Lance Bass has defended a television star who apologised after saying gay people were “more pervert”, and should not be allowed on TV.
Speaking to reporters at the Sundance Film Festival, Bass said he was disappointed at the comments, but that he understood why someone might hold those views.
The openly gay singer said: “Of course it’s disappointing, because you don’t want someone who you actually love to have those thoughts.”
“When you grow up in a place like that, you get brainwashed into thinking that way, you know, you can’t help what you grow up with.”
Speaking of his own upbringing he said he understood why people might make mistakes.
“I mean, I grew up in Mississippi, so I know how people can get brainwashed into thinking really, really awful things. So hopefully, he will learn from this and get educated.”
“I don’t hate him at all,” Bass continued, saying: “I still think he’s cute.”
Not the first time in recent weeks that a television personality has caused controversy, last week a US host suggested that bisexual men do not exist.
The host of Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger, gave a backstage interview for the Bethenny Frankel TV show last week and suggested that bisexual men do not exist, because they’re all gay.
