GiFi, the inclusive, next-generation social app for gay men has arrived
Available for download today, GiFi is the next-generation social app that aims to change forever the way gay men chat, network and meet up.
GiFi aims for inclusivity, community and non-judgment which it achieves via a mobile app that allows members to: build a support network, find new friends, stay-in-touch with existing friends, look for a job, arrange a date or hook-up, all with unparalleled ease.
The app delivers a user experience that combines the best functionality of social networking and dating websites with the freedom of real-time identification, location and communication afforded by the latest mobile and geo-spatial location technology.
GiFi members can browse, filter, sort and display (in grid, map, carousel & history views) the 500 nearest guys, to any defined location, who match their interests, preferences and current mood.
The app also introduces members based upon their mutual declared interest and, in a future release, by the learning of on-app behaviours. A range of social networking tools enable members to locate interesting places, create private groups and communicate via 1-on-1 chat, multi-way chat or group messaging. Finally, offline working means members can continue to browse, tag members and create groups even when out of range of a mobile signal.
The first 10,000 users of the app will receive a free lifetime GiFi premium membership and all subsequent users will receive at least one month premium membership free.
GiFi membership is free: users can access all the premium functions without being annoyed by advertising but are limited in the number of searches, profile views and messages they can send in a day. GiFi premium memberships can be purchased on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and yearly basis at subscription prices ranging from £1.49 to £29.99 and gives users access to all functions in an unlimited manner. At either service level, member profiles are securely stored in the GiFi cloud meaning they can be recovered in the event of a lost or factory reset phone or even after a member leaves the community and later decides to re-join.
GiFi is committed to re-investing revenues into the development of new functionality and improvements to the app as prioritised by members of the community. This includes expansion of the community website where members can review dynamically updated content including: city, top bar, club and hotel reviews as well as create new content and post comment on trending topics. GiFi has hired a dedicated community team whose role is to ensure members are happy and reach-out to the businesses, charities, and community organisers that serve the community. GiFi will donate a percentage of all profits derived from the app to its preferred charities, including the London Lesbian & Gay Switch Board.
GiFi is built on a massively scalable, real-time, geo-spatial mobile technology platform developed by Cambridge based Technology Company GeoSpock Ltd. Dr Michael Murphy, Operations Director says “Our platform seeks to address the scalability problems that plague current mobile social networking and dating apps. The resulting limited functionality, increasing app instability and data loss as user numbers increase combined with rapid battery drain can result in a frustrating user experience. This is especially true when considered in the context of the high-subscription prices charged by app providers”.
Kristian Tangen-Sorgendal, GiFi Community Manager says “the purpose of the app is to disrupt the status quo. We have launched GiFi to give the community we are proud to be a part of the app it has been waiting for and at a price that all levels of income can afford.
“The community is well known to be an early adopter of new ideas, brands and technology often out of the desire to project a united identity and build strength through a common connectivity. We hope that it will embrace the app and work with us to make it the best out there. The GiFi team will be reaching out to community organisers and businesses to ensure that the app always delivers value for money and does not exploit the very members who fund its existence”.
