Russian minister accidentally called ‘gay lover’ in Channel 4 subtitle mix-up
The Russian Foreign Minister has accidentally been referred to as “so gay lover of”, in a subtitle mix-up during a Channel 4 report.
Sergey Lavrov was the subject of a report discussing a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry.
The subtitle censors picked up Sergey’s name as: “so gay lover of”, during the report.
The irony was not lost on Twitter users who picked up on the accidental mis-naming, particuarly because of Russia’s anti-gay law which was signed last June by Vladimir Putin.
We wonder if this counts as “the promotion of non-traditional relationships”?
