Sandi Toksvig and partner to renew vows on Saturday to ‘celebrate equal marriage’
Sandi Toksvig and her partner are to publicly renew their vows on Saturday to celebrate the start of same-sex marriage.
The Danish-born comedian and radio host will renew her vows with partner Debbie in front of a crowd at the Southbank Centre on Saturday, on the day same-sex weddings are set to begin in the UK.
The couple will be joined on stage by their four children as they renew their vows, before joining in the celebrations.
Toksvig said: “This is a joyous occasion which Debbie and I look forward to celebrating with old and new friends. It is a public statement of pride in our love and thanks to all those who have campaigned for equality over many years.”
The London Gay Men’s Chorus, ‘We Will Rock You’ actress Sharon D Clarke and singer-songwriter Rick Wakeman will be playing at the ceremony in the Royal Festival Hall.
Tamsin Ace, performance and dance programmer at Southbank Centre said: “We don’t celebrate and mark every law change but this one is important because it brings equality to everyone. It’s a moment for us to say that we believe in this and this is a great thing and we are going to kick off our summer festival with celebrating this change.”
