US: Lesbian married in Michigan assaulted by several men days after wedding
Just days after marrying in a brief period during which same-sex marriage was legal in Michigan, a woman was violently assaulted.
The 28-year old woman married last month on the one day same-sex marriage was legal in the state.
Days later, she was getting off a bus when she said she was approached by three men, who used a homophobic slur against her.
The woman said she was then punched in the face, knocked to the ground and kicked. She lost consciousness during the attack, before the men fled the scene.
She had previously been in the news as she had married her partner in Washtenaw County after a federal judge stuck down the state’s same-sex marriage ban.
A stay was later put on the ruling, in order to allow the state to appeal against the ruling.
