US: Alabama woman charged with murder of son’s gay lover
An Alabama woman has been charged with the murder of her son’s gay lover, after he was gunned down outside a truck stop.
WBRC reports that Antia T Hill, 51, was arrested earlier this week in connection with the murder of Jamie R Johnson, 36, who she is alleged to have shot in the back.
Police say Johnson was “involved in a long-term relationship” with Hill’s son.
According to Tuscaloosa County Deputies, last Monday Johnson, Hill and Hill’s son had agreed to meet at Love’s Truck Stop in McCalla.
They talked for a few minutes, and after Hill’s son returned to his vehicle, the pair continued speaking.
WBRC reports that when Johnson turned to walk away from the woman, she shot him in the back, fatally wounding him.
Sergeant Dale Phillips said: “We don’t see this in any way being a hate crime. We see this being a family having issues in this.
“All the people involved in this were either related or had been acquaintances for several years.”
He said he believed that Johnson had in the past been violent towards Hill’s son, and that Hill did not intend to kill Johnson when she went to the truck stop.
Hill’s bail has been set at $75,000 (£44688), and she is being held in Tuscaloosa County Jail.
