Gay actor Matt Bomer has revealed that he’s secretly been married to his same-sex partner for the past three years.

The White Collar and Magic Mike star publicly revealed that he was gay in 2012, by thanking his partner Simon Halls – then assumed to be his boyfriend – and their three children at an awards show.

He said at the time: “Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment.”

He revealed to Details magazine today that he and Halls are actually married, in a publicity interview for ‘The Normal Heart’, a film by Larry Kramer about the 1980s AIDS crisis in New York.

He told the magazine of the upcoming film: “I wouldn’t have a lot of the rights I have today if it wasn’t for people like Larry”, revealing that he had married Halls in 2011.

He continued: “I just wanted to be involved with the project in some capacity, I didn’t care what my part was.”

Bomer and Halls have three sons together: 6-year-old twins, and an 8-year-old.

After Bomer came out, Brett Easton Ellis, the author of American Psycho, ridiculed rumours that he could take the lead in a film version of Fifty Shades of Grey, declaring that the part “demands an actor that is genuinely into women”, and labelled accusations of homophobia “unsettling and retarded”.

The Normal Heart, in which Bomer stars opposite Mark Ruffalo, will be released on May 25 in the US.
