Russia: Author of gay propaganda law calls for boycott of ‘Eurovision sodom show’
The author of Russia’s anti-gay propaganda law has called for the country to boycott next week’s Eurovision Song Contest, branding it a ‘sodom show’.
Russian MP Vitaly Milonov, the author of Russia’s anti-gay law, has now called for the country to refuse to take part in the “Sodom show” next week.
According to the Guardian, he said that taking part in “the Europe-wide gay parade (…) [would] contradict the path of cultural and moral renewal that Russia stands on today.
“Even just broadcasting the competition in Russia could insult millions of Russians.
“The participation of the obvious transvestite and hermaphrodite Conchita Wurst on the same stage as Russian singers on live television is blatant propaganda of homosexuality and spiritual decay.”
On Wednesday next week, three Russian gay couples are set to marry in host city Copenhagen.
Wurst will perform in the second semi-final, to be held on May 8.
If successful, she will advance to the grand final on May 10.
Russia has participated in Eurovision since 1994, and sent faux-lesbian pop duo t.A.T.u to the contest in 2003.
