UK: Police treating homophobic leaflet as a ‘hate incident’
Cambridgeshire police are investigating a homophobic leaflet sent to homes in Ely and say they are treating it as a “hate incident”.
The leaflet, distributed to several addresses earlier this month, claims that “homosexuality is not natural. It never has been and it never will be.”
It added: “God created man and woman for their mutual compatibility and for the procreation of children.”
According to The Ely Standard, Cambridgeshire police has issued a statement saying: “We have received a number of reports about the leaflets and are treating the matter as a hate incident.”
Several residents say they have been left dismayed and angry by the offensive literature.
The authorities state they “are working with local and national partners about the leaflets and investigations are ongoing.”
