Christian People’s Alliance leader: ‘God is angry over gay marriage’
The leader of the Christian People’s Alliance has said he thinks “God is angry over gay marriage”, and even suggested that it is possible that same-sex marriage caused floods.
Speaking on the Daily Politics programme on the BBC with Andrew Neil, Sid Cordle, the Christian political party’s leader, said “a lot of Christians” agree with the assertion that “God is angry over gay marriage”.
He went on: “God can show that anger.”
When asked whether he agreed with former UKIP councillor that “gay marriage caused floods” David Silvester, Mr Cordle said: “Where councillor Silvester was wrong was to be adamant that this was the case… If he said this is possible … I would certainly agree with that.”
He did, however, go on to say that his party “did not judge people because of their lifestyle.”
According to Mr Cordle, “marriage was vitally important” to the party, and claimed that same-sex marriage would cost the UK £49 billion a year.
He said the coalition government was “not pursuing Christian politics”, and that UKIP “does not provide a natural home for Christians”.
