US radio hosts fired after transphobic on-air comments
Two radio hosts from upstate New York have been fired for mocking transgender people.
The offensive remarks were made on the Breakfast Buzz when the duo were talking about the city of Rochester’s decision to cover gender reassignment surgery for their employees.
During the transphobic segment on their breakfast show, the hosts Kimberly Ray and Barry Beck called transgender people “nut jobs,” questioned the need for transgender health care and played Aerosmith’s Dude Looks Like A Lady.
The two accused a high school athlete of having an unfair advantage over her opponents and compared gender reassignment surgery to a woman who wants a “boob job” for her mental health.
They also called a female listener “sir” after she called in to complain about their remarks.
Ray and Beck lost their jobs following the comments.
