Gay international development activist becomes Labour MEP for London
Michael Cashman has congratulated Labour’s newest gay MEP for London, Seb Dance.
Mr Dance was among four Labour MEPs to be elected in London. The Conservatives came second with two MEPs, the Greens and UKIP both secured one MEP each.
The newly-elected Member of the European Parliament tweeted his joy at the results.
He said: “Thank you for all the kind tweets. I am so proud to be part of the great Labour team of MEPs that won for London, the city I love.”
.@SebDance Your seat is so well-deserved. Very happy! You will do fantastic job and #EP has got a wonderful new addition! #lookingforward — Michael Cashman (@mcashmanMEP) May 26, 2014
Mr Dance was previously an adviser to former Northern Ireland Secretary Sean Woodward. He most recently has worked for the international charity ActionAid.
He is also a member of LGBTLabour, the party’s LGBT campaign group.
Meanwhile, LGBTLabour National Secretary Tom Hayes was elected on Friday as a councillor in Oxfordshire.
