US transgender activist and actress Laverne Cox has been featured on the cover of this month’s TIME magazine.

Cox, star of critically acclaimed, Orange is the New Black, is featured on the cover.

The magazine was earlier this year the subject of a campaign to have Cox featured in its list of the 100 Most Influential People.

The magazine did not add Cox to the list, but has featured her on the June cover with the caption: “The Transgender Tipping Point.”

On being featured on the cover, Cox wrote: “What a wonderful bday present! Yes today is my birthday and I am on the cover of @TIME magazine. I realize this is way bigger than me and about a tipping point in our nation’s history where it is no kinger acceptable for trans lives to be stigmatized, ridiculed, criminalized and disregarded. This is for my trans siblings out there and for anyone who has ever been told that who you know yourself to be at your core is not legitimate. You are who you know yourselves to be. #girlslikeus #whereislavernecox #lavernehive.”

Cox is also featured in a behind the scenes video from her TIME shoot, available to view below.
