George Takei releases own ‘Let It Go’ cover in response to ‘God Hates Fags’ church
George Takei has released his own cover of Let It Go, mocking the Westboro Baptist Church.
The notoriously anti-gay church had previously released a homophobic cover of the Frozen song, replacing the chorus with the lyrics “Let it go, let it go, don’t give the fags any more / Let it go, let it go, kick them out and slam the door”.
In response, the former Star Trek actor and renowned LGBT advocate has made his own version, lip-syncing to the lyrics of the Disney original while he dances along.
Pictures of the Westboro Baptist Church appear throughout the video, as he pleads with them to “let it go”.
Frozen has been targeted by other right-wing groups in the past, over objections to the ‘bestiality’ friendship between Sven and Kristoff, and the hints that sauna owner Oaken is gay.
Earlier this month Takei was awarded GLAAD’s Vito Russo award, in honour of his extended advocacy work.
Accepting the award, he joked: “Tonight, I know it’s okay to be Takei. I’m so GLAAD to be Takei, I’m surrounded by people who are GLAAD to be Takei.
“Tonight, we’re all Takei, and I’m so GLAAD to be with all of you GLAAD people to receive this important recognition.”
