Channing Tatum: Jonah Hill ‘really means’ his apology after anti-gay slur
Channing Tatum has defended Jonah Hill, claiming his co-star “really means” his apology after calling a photographer a “faggot”.
Tatum is currently appearing in 22 Jump Street with Hill, who was embroiled in controversy earlier this week when a clip appeared of him online shouting anti-gay slurs at a photographer.
Following the incident Hill quickly appeared on Howard Stern’s radio show to apologise for the incident, and a day later appeared on Good Morning America, vowing to ” never, ever use that word ever again”, admitting that “words can be really destructive”.
In an interview with Extra ahead of the release of the film, Tatum said he was convinced that unlike others, Hill’s apology was genuine and from the heart.
Tatum said: “I think most of the time when people have to go on and sort of apologise for something it might not come off all that well because it’s not actually what they mean.
“I can honestly say that is not who he is. It came off well and he did it well because he really means it, that wasn’t who he was that day.”
Hill added: “It’s just about owning up to when you mess up in life, and hopefully some people can learn from mistakes that I’ve made in my life and that’s it.”
