US: Another former NOM official admits equal marriage in 50 states is inevitable
Another former official from the National Organization for Marriage has admitted that same-sex marriage in all 50 states is “inevitable”.
Speaking on a Catholic radio show, Jennifer Roback Morse – who fought for Proposition 8 to ban same-sex marriage in California, and worked for NOM’s Marriage Education Fund for five years, until 2013 – admitted that marriage in all 50 states is inevitable.
Roback Morse said: “I think there’s a sense in which he’s correct. When the Supreme Court overturned DOMA last year, you could see within that ruling, all of the elements were there to create redefined marriage throughout the country.
“And so, what we’ve had going on here for the past 11 months, is that kind of state by state strategy of overturning all of the different state marriage amendments, and that’s pretty much inevitable.”
Her comments echoed those of NOM co-founder Maggie Gallagher, who has repeatedly stressed her belief that equal marriage is now unstoppable.
“I think it’s very likely that we have to just live in the reality of [it].
“Our big challenge is going to be how do we sustain a culture or sub-culture of marriage when our government defines and teaches that marriage is something rather different than what we believe.”
