Police continue search for suspect in homophobic bleach attack outside London club
Police are continuing their search for a man spotted on CCTV in the case of a clubber who may lose his eyesight after being sprayed in the face with bleach outside a London nightclub.
The man, who spoke to the Evening Standard on condition of anonymity, and his friend, were believed to have been attacked with a concentrated ammonia solution outside the LightBox club in Vauxhall. A third man was also sprayed with the liquid – police believe the same man is responsible for both incidents.
Detectives yesterday issued CCTV stills of a man and two women they sought to trace following the attack. The women were said to have hurled homophobic abuse at the victims before the man apparently sprayed the solution in their faces.
The two women came forward, but were not arrested.
The man in the image has not yet been found.
Orange Nation, the company that owns the Lightbox venue released a statement yesterday distancing itself from the incident, stating that the club was closed when it took place, and that there was not a gay night taking place.
The crime is being investigated by the Lambeth Community Safety Unit, which asks that anybody who recognises the people in the image, or can give more information, calls 0208 649 2176 or 07909 906 168.
