John Barrowman awarded MBE in Queen’s Birthday Honours List
Actor and singer John Barrowman has been awarded an MBE for services to entertainment and charity.
The openly gay Doctor Who and Torchwood star, who is currently filming the third season of superhero drama Arrow, was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list today.
He is a prominent supporter of LGB charities including Stonewall, and the Make A Difference Trust, which supports people living with HIV and AIDS.
He said in a video blog: “It’s been the hardest thing for me to keep this a secret, but I’m glad it’s out now, because this is probably one of the proudest days of my life.
The fact that I am able to celebrate it with my husband Scott, the fact that my parents are still here to celebrate it with me.
“I can’t tell you how honoured I am to get this MBE, to be recognised by Her Majesty, and also by the United Kingdom, because that’s where I consider my home.
“Proud to be Scottish, proud to be part of Great Britain, and proud to accept this honour.
“I am chuffed and I can’t say more than that.”
Last year, he married his long-term partner Scott Gill in a private ceremony in California.
The couple first entered into a civil partnership in 2006.
The actor has previously revealed that he would like to adopt an older child in the future.
