Commissioners in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, have passed a resolution which pushes for the state to introduce same-sex marriage.
The resolution was passed with 3 votes to 2, with opposition from Mayor Jack Seiler and Vice Mayor Romney Rogers.
The resolution “urges the Florida legislature and Governor Rick Scott to enact a law that would provide for marriage equality” in the state, reports Local10 Florida.
A certified copy will be sent to the Governor and the Broward County state legislative delegation.
A lawsuit was filed in January challenging the state’s 2008 voter-approved same-sex marriage ban.
The Republican Governor of Florida, Rick Scott, is an opponent of same-sex marriage.
