Duck Dynasty star: I’m a ‘nice man’ for trying to turn homosexuals to Jesus
Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has claimed he is a “nice man” trying to help homosexual “poor souls” find Jesus.
Despite the family claiming it had “moved on” from the incident, earlier this year Robertson gave an Easter Sermon claiming that the “sexually immoral” and “wicked” would go to hell.
AL reports that when appearing at the Rock the South festival on Saturday, Phil Robertson claimed he was actually a “nice man”, despite his portrayal in the media.
He said: “Everybody knows what sin is. Somebody asks me about a specific sin. I just quoted a Bible verse and everybody said I was a mean old man.
“I’m actually a nice man. I’m trying to help those poor souls and turn them to Jesus.”
Deirdre Gurney, the executive producer of Duck Dynasty, had previously claimed that it wasn’t her job to hold Robertson accountable for his comments.
She said: “He made [the comments], but he doesn’t deny who he is. He has beliefs and stands by them. But that isn’t how he treats people – it is what he thinks. I think there’s a separation.
“When something happens with talent or the network, it’s really the network’s job [to handle it]. We make it for them, but it’s their show, and they decide how they want to handle it.”
