MEP: ‘Conchita Wurst is a dangerous bearded genetically modified organism’
Bulgarian MEP Angel Dzhambazki has been slammed by Liberal Democrat MEP Catherine Bearder for making offensive remarks about Conchita Wurst.
Mr Dzhambazki has today been accepted into the Conservative Party’s ECR group in the European Parliament.
Mrs Bearder told PinkNews: “The public deserves an explanation as to why Conservative MEPs have agreed to share a platform with this divisive and hateful figure who is so out of touch with British values of tolerance and compassion.”
She added: “Despite his name, this man is clearly no angel. In fact, by associating themselves with such an openly racist and homophobic politician the Tories are dancing with the devil.”
Mr Dzhambazki made offensive remarks about the Austrian Eurovision winner in an interview to One Europe published in May – before his election to the European Parliament.
He described Conchita Wurst’s victory as a “very dangerous trend” in the destruction of Europe’s “value system”.
Mr Dzhambazki referred to the singer, who is performing at this Saturday’s Pride in London, as a “dangerous” and “bearded creature” who is like a “genetically modified organism.”
In the same interview the Bulgarian politician described the EU’s roadmap against homophobia and transphobia as a “problem”.
He said: “The resolution for the human rights of the third gender is absolutely an unacceptable targeting of humanity against nature.
“There are men and there are women in the normal world, everything else is a preserve liberty.
“And this craziness must not be regularised in any manner.
“Another important problem is the EU Roadmap against homophobia and discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity resolution.
“That enables the legalisation of same-sex marriages. In my opinion the gays may have only conventional human rights.
“The rights of the heterosexuals are not mentioned in any document. So isn’t the EU Roadmap a discrimination to them?”
Mr Dzhambazki has also been accused of inciting hatred against immigrants, after calling on the citizens of Sofia to “clean the city” and take “self-defence actions” by establishing “volunteer patrols and units”.
