US: Florida same-sex marriage ban to face legal test
The US state of Florida’s same-sex marriage ban will face a legal test today.
The test, in the Miami-Dade Circuit, will take place in a lawsuit challenging the state’s 2008 ban on gay and lesbian couples marrying.
Judge Sara Zabel has scheduled a 4pm hearing.
“A lot has changed in Florida and across the country on same-sex marriage,” said Sharon Kersten, a spokeswoman for Equality Florida, which is seeking to overturn the law. “We feel quite confident.”
Yesterday, a federal judge has struck down the state of Kentucky’s ban on same-sex marriage.
