London: New performance explores what it means to be queer in a capitalist world
A new performance art exhibition ‘Of Saints and Go-go Boys,’ will take place in London, exploring what it means to be queer in the modern world.
Joseph Mercier and PanicLab present their latest work: ‘Of Saints And Go-Go Boys’, London July 17-19 at Toynbee Studios.
The show is a story of 3 social outcasts searching for their own brand of Sainthood through examining and questioning what it means to be queer in a capitalist world.
The characters explore concepts of queerness around sex work, illicit drugs, perversion and various sexualities.
Inspired by Jean Genet’s novel ‘Our Lady of the Flowers,’ director Mercier says the production is a creative creation of, “how Genet would comment on modern queer life, and what it might mean to live like Genet today.”
‘Our Lady of the Flowers’ is an erotic French novel published in 1943 based on Genet’s life in the Parisian social underbelly.
