Video: Watch the first trailer for ‘The Imitation Game’ Alan Turing biopic

Producers have released the first trailer for a biopic looking at the life of late gay codebreaker and computer genius Alan Turing.

‘The Imitation Game’ is the upcoming US film based on the biography of the wartime codebreaker and father of modern computing Alan Turing, which was written by Andrew Hodges.

Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Turing, will be joined by Keira Knightley as Turing’s fellow Bletchley codebreaker and “complicated love interest”, Joan Clarke.

‘The Imitation Game’ is being directed by Morten Tyldum and produced in association with Nora Grossman and Ido Ostrowsky of Amersand Pictures.

The film will be the opening film at this year’s London Film Festival.

Earlier in May, a private member’s bill was introduced in the House of Lords, seeking to pardon Turing, who was prosecuted for “gross indecency” in 1952 after having a relationship with another man.

The film was last year criticised by Turing’s biographer, who accused filmmakers of downplaying the fact that the codebreaker was gay.

A New Alan Turing sculpture was also unveiled in London earlier this year to commemorate the computer genius’s legacy.
