Producers have released the first trailer for a biopic looking at the life of late gay codebreaker and computer genius Alan Turing.

ā€˜The Imitation Gameā€™ is the upcoming US film based on the biography of the wartime codebreaker and father of modern computing Alan Turing, which was written by Andrew Hodges.

Benedict Cumberbatch,Ā who playsĀ Turing, will be joined by Keira Knightley as Turingā€™s fellow Bletchley codebreaker and ā€œcomplicated love interestā€, Joan Clarke.

‘The Imitation Game’ is beingĀ directed by Morten Tyldum and produced in association with Nora Grossman and Ido Ostrowsky of Amersand Pictures.

The filmĀ will be the opening film at this year’sĀ London Film Festival.

Earlier in May, a private memberā€™s bill was introduced in the House of Lords, seeking to pardon Turing, who was prosecuted for ā€œgross indecencyā€ in 1952 after having a relationship with another man.

The film was last year criticised by Turing’s biographer, who accused filmmakers of downplaying the fact that the codebreaker was gay.

A New Alan Turing sculpture was also unveiled in London earlier this year to commemorate the computer geniusā€™s legacy.
