US: Colorado same-sex marriage ban arguments to be heard by federal judge
A federal judge will today begin to hear arguments from couples who seek to overturn the state of Colorado’s same-sex marriage ban.
The six couples seek to have the ban deemed unconstitutional, and to allow county clerks to immediately issue marriage licences to same-sex couples.
Despite not opposing an injunction to do just that, Attorney General John Suthers has asked for any ruling to be put on hold, in order to give the US Supreme Court a chance to rule on the issue.
Clerks in several counties of Colorado had been issuing marriage licences to same-sex couples, but the Supreme Court in the state last week ordered on county, Denver, to stop.
