Trans* Pride festival to be held in Brighton this weekend
The second ever Trans* Pride Brighton festival is set to open this evening.
The event, which debuted last year, celebrates transgender, intersex, gender variant and queer people and culture.
The celebrations open tonight at the Duke of York Cinema at 6:30, with a film night “showcasing trans* film making talent, themes and actors”.
The main day of the festival is tomorrow, when a parade – complete with samba band – will head down St James’ Street at noon, before the main Pride event in New Steine Gardens.
A statement from the organisers said: “After the runaway success of the first Trans* Pride Brighton last year we are pleased to announce that the 2014 event will be taking place again on the last weekend of July in Brighton.”
“The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have supported us over the last 12 months and reaffirm our commitment to taking pride in representing trans* people from the UK.”
“We encourage everybody to bring flags, banners and anything else that will add to the party atsmosphere.”
The event will conclude on Sunday, with a social lunch on Brighton beach.
