Stockholm gears up for Scandinavia’s biggest pride festival featuring Conchita Wurst
The city of Stockholm is gearing up for its annual pride festival this week, with performances by Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst, a video campaign showing different perspectives on the city, and a range of party options.
Tens of thousands of revellers are expected for the festival this week, which is the largest in Scandanavia.
This year, Conchita Wurst will perform her Eurovision-winning song ‘Rise like a Phoenix’ during the opening gala at Pride Park tomorrow, Wednesday 30 July in Pride Park.
This year’s festival will also see the first ever Folk Festival as part of the pride celebrations, on 31 July, which aims to open the door to Swedish musical history.
The party will continue through Friday with three events, the Lesbian Party, Drag Party and Burlesque Party, all one after the other on the main stage, and the celebrations come to an end on Saturday, but not before The Rainbow Party and the Party for Those Who Can’t on Saturday night.
Berns’ concert hall will host an evening of music on Saturday evening including music by the London-based GutterSlut.
As part of the Pride Month celebrations, ten Stockholmers have been asked by the Stockholm Visitors Board to share their personal thoughts and perspectives on the city.
Morgan is one of those featured in the campaign. He says he thinks Stockholm is the greatest city on earth, and talks about marrying his husband at the church in the Sodermalm district.
Stockholm Pride takes place between 30 July and 2 August 2014, and there is more information for gay and lesbian visitors here.
