US: Former Facebook President is donating to anti-gay Republicans
Multi-billionaire Sean Parker, best known for creating the music service Napster and being Facebook’s first president, is donating an average of six figures to anti-gay Republican candidates.
Parker claims he is supporting candidates who are bi-partisan and economically centrist. However, every candidate he is supporting in the 2014 and 2016 elections is against LGBT rights.
Amongst the candidates who have received donations from Parker, not one supports same-sex marriage.
Many of them have voted against anti-discrimination and hate crime laws for the LGBT community. Others have gone as far as to support organizations like the Family Research Council that wants homosexuality to be criminalised.
Among his beneficiaries are Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran and Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. All who have publicly expressed their positions on LGBT rights.
Senator Rand Paul, a potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate, is not only anti-choice and anti-gay, but he once made an insinuation that same-sex marriage will lead to bestiality. He later claimed this was a joke.
Senator Thad Cochran voted for a constitutional amendment banning marriage for same-sex couples. He also believes that people should be fired just because they seem gay.
Senator Lindsey Graham proudly discussed his work in Congress to keep members of the LGBT community from having access to the benefits that accompany marriage. He is also a supporter of the Defense of Marriage Act and did his part to try to persuade the Supreme Court to uphold the law last year.
Mark Zuckerberg, one of the founders of Facebook , has met with Sean Parker to make Silicon Valley more friendly for potential Presidential candidate Paul Rand.
