US: ESPN premieres new documentary profiling Brittney Griner
ESPN has release a documentary called “Lifesize: Brittney Griner” as part of its “Nine for IX” short film series.
The series, named after the Title IX ruling which promoted gender equality in US sports, covers female sports figures throughout athletics history.
The film, which has been released just a month before WNBA playoffs, profiles Griner’s career playing basketball in China during the WNBA off-season.
As the film explains, many WNBA superstars play overseas in WNBA off-season for the pay.
Griner earns approximately $49,000 (£29,000) in a WMBA season. In China, she earns approximately 600,000 (£356,700).
The documentary also touches on Griner’s relationship with her family and girlfriend, homesickness while in China, and her affinity for junk food.
Griner came out as gay early into her WNBA career in April 2013.
