US: Man pleads not guilty to murder of 20-year-old bisexual student
A man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of shooting and killing a bisexual 20-year-old student in California.
25-year-old Miguel Angel Bautista Ramirez, of Mecca, California, is the sole suspect in the death of Juan Ceballos, with whom he worked at Pizza Hut.
Ceballos was killed on July 13 when he was gunned down outside his own flat, while bringing food home to his family.
Prosecutors are claiming that Remirez “waited for Juan outside his home and shot and killed him because of his sexual orientation”.
His brother Sergio Ceballos told KESQ: “He was coming home from work. He had pizza.
“He was messaging me. As soon as he parked it happened.”
“I ran out to check on him, but he was already dead.
“He worked hard to pay bills. He went to school. He wanted a future and career.”
He told the Bilerico report: “If it was because of [his sexuality], that was a stupid reason.
“He said that he was he was looking for happiness in a world full of evil, maybe he was right.
“The world is full of evil, and I just don’t know why they ever did this to him.
“He was our guide, everything that we have now, we owe it to him.”
Ramirez – who is pleading not guilty – has not been granted bail, and is due back in court on August 11.
