Strictly Come Dancing star Robin Windsor has dropped out of the show over a back injury.

The ballroom dancer, who is in a relationship with X Factor runner-up Marcus Collins, has been part of the BBC show since 2010.

In a statement, he said: “I’m devastated to have to pull out of Strictly this year due to a pre-existing back injury,’ Windsor said.

“It’s been a really difficult decision, but I plan to focus 100% on my recovery and hope to be back in the ballroom as soon as possible, doing what I love best.

“In the meantime, I wish the rest of the cast and crew the best of luck with the new series, which I’ll be watching every week.”

Following his departure, there are no out dance professionals in this year’s contest.

Earlier this week, the show’s stars had backed a call for a same-sex dance couple to be allowed on the show for the first time.

Windsor said: “I’m not sure if the British public are ready for it on the main show.

“But I think it would be a good idea to do it on a Children In Need special or the Christmas show.

“It would be a good way to test the waters. Then, if the public love it, why not go all out and do it for a full series? I’m up for anything.”

Professional dancer Ola Jordan said: “Let’s try it. Why not?

“I don’t know if the audience is ready. But unless you try you won’t know.

“I think there will be pressure from fans for Strictly to do it. So if it’s not this year, hopefully it’ll happen next year.”
