The Walking Dead creator: Main character could have a gay storyline
The creator of The Walking Dead says fans of the show shouldn’t rule out a same-sex love interest for one of the show’s main characters, Daryl Dixon.
Robert Kirkman, co-creator of the comic book series that the hit show is based on, has talked about the sexuality of Dixon in a comicbook.com interview.
Kirkman told the site he has talked with the show’s writers about what direction to take the character’s sexuality.
Kirkman said: “We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality, or the seeming lack thereof, and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing, we’ll tackle it in the show.”
Dixon, played by actor Norman Reedus, has only had close friendships with women on the show, not romantic relationships.
The comics on which the show is based feature several gay characters. Dixon’s character, however, is not present in the comics.
When asked if producers would be supportive of such a storyline, Kirkman said: ‘For the record, they absolutely would.’
