US: Memorial to be held for murdered Baltimore trans woman
A memorial will be held this weekend for one of two transgender women murdered just weeks apart in Baltimore.
26-year-old Mia Henderson, was found murdered in an alleyway on July 16.
Henderson was the sibling of NBA player Reggie Bullock, of the Los Angeles Clippers.
Her death came just weeks after Kandy Hall, 40, was found murdered in a Baltimore field.
Both women’s bodies were described as having experienced “severe trauma”.
A group will gather on Saturday in the Charles Village Spiritual Empowerment Center to pay tribute to Henderson.
Police, who are still investigating whether the killings are connected, say they have no current suspects in either case.
Keith Thirion, director of advocacy and programs for Equality Maryland, said previously: “It’s clear the community is concerned about the continued violence against transgender women, and we need to see action.”
Baltimore police spokesman Lieutenant Eric Kowalczyk said that they are investigating prostitution as a circumstance in Henderson’s murder, after a witness in the area claimed that a man offering women money for a “date” had entered the alleyway with Henderson shortly before her body was found.
