Subway customer launched into homophobic tirade over sandwich he didn’t like
Police are seeking a customer of Subway in Liverpool who launched into a homophobic rant as he did not like the sandwich he ordered, and threatened violence against staff.
The man is seen on CCTV images at Subway on Great Howard Street, Liverpool at about 2pm on 2 August. Police say they are treating the incident as a hate crime.
The customer threatened to return to the store and assault workers.
Staff said the abuse started as the man said he did not like his sandwich. The customer also left without paying for his sandwich.
He was described as about 35 years old, about 5’4″ tall, slim, and spoke with a Liverpool accent.
DC Richard McKenzie told the Liverpool Echo: “The staff at Subway were deeply upset by this man’s actions. They were just doing their jobs when they were viciously verbally abused by the offender who hurled a torrent of abuse at them, some of which was homophobic, and said he would return after they finished work to assault them.
“Merseyside police will not tolerate this kind of behaviour or any kind of homophobia and we are keen to trace the person responsible. We ask anyone with any information to contact us so we can take action.
“We are particularly keen to speak to the man pictured in the CCTV and ask him, or anyone who recognises him, to contact us.”
