Video: Adam Hills continues spat with God Hates Fags church
Adam Hills has continued his feud with the Westboro Baptist Church, labelling their God “a bit of a dick”.
The Topeka-based anti-gay church, known for their ‘God Hates Fags’ banners, announced earlier this month that they would picket any memorial for actor Robin Williams, who starred as a gay man in The Birdcage and cross-dressed in Mrs Doubtfire.
Comedian Adam Hills has mocked the plans on last week’s edition of The Last Leg, saying: “How about putting your money where your mouth is, taking a direct flight to Iraq and picketing the people threatening to behead Christians if they don’t convert?
“I will personally pay for every member of Westboro Baptist Church to fly to Iraq right now, I’ll even fly you first class and pay the carbon offset.”
The group seized on the publicity to post a number of offensive Islamophobic signs, and attempted to take up the offer of flights.
Addressing the church again this week, Hills said: “This is what the Westboro Baptist Church do: they threaten to picket funerals, they rarely go through with it, and they know that no matter what happens, people will be outraged, and they’ll get more publicity.
“These guys are so desperate for attention that they make Lady Gaga look like Salman Rushdie.
“Here’s the thing Westboro Baptist Church: If I send you to Iraq, I’d be doing exactly what your God would want. And you know what? I don’t like your God, he’s a bit of a dick.
“The group behind the rainbow-painted equality house showed me what to do this week, when they set up an online fundraiser for one of Robin Williams’ favourite charities.
“I’m going to take all the money I was going to spend on your air tickets, and I’m going to donate it directly to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the name of Robin Williams.
“Our conversation is over.”
