US: A Day With HIV photo campaign looks to spread awareness
A photo campaign is encouraging people impacted by HIV to take a photo of their everyday lives on Tuesday, 9 September to raise awareness of the virus.
The anti-stigma photo campaign, now in its fifth year, is organised by HIV awareness magazine Positively Aware.
The campaign encourages people to take a photo on Tuesday “regardless of their HIV status” to show how HIV impacts their life.
Pictures and captions, which will describe the photo and explain what prompted the participant to take their picture, will be featured on the A Day With HIV website.
Jeff Berry, editor of Positively Aware, told PinkNews: “Each year we at Positively Aware are overcome by the diversity of images and stories that are submitted, and humbled by the willingness of participants to share very intimate moments of their lives so publicly.
“These images and the stories behind them need to be shared, so that we can begin to eliminate the shame, stigma, and a basic misunderstanding among most people about what HIV looks like.”
