Kellie Maloney evicted from Celebrity Big Brother
Kellie Maloney has been evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother house.
The former boxing promoter and UKIP candidate came out as transgender in August, before entering the Celebrity Big Brother house a week later.
Maloney attracted criticism shortly after coming out when she said: “I’m not homophobic, I have gay friends… I still don’t think that children should be brought up in same-sex marriages.”
Despite being an early favourite to win the reality show, Maloney was put up for nomination by her fellow housemates, and was voted out of the house in Friday’s double-eviction.
The crowd jeered as she left, following her feud with Strictly Come Dancing star James Jordan.
She told presenter Emma Willis: “I’ve learned a lot about myself, and I’ve learned to accept myself. I really hope the British public have learned a lot about the transgender issue.
“I don’t even remember going into the house – I went into the house drunk. I’ve come out very strong – and I’ve come out sober. It was like rehab.”
Maloney’s fee for appearing on the show – rumoured to be upwards of £400,000 – will partly be donated to trans support group TG Pals.
Maloney is the latest in a line of transgender housemates, following Big Brother 5 winner Nadia Almada, and Celebrity Big Brother 2013 contestant Lauren Harries.
Prior to her transition, Maloney had claimed that she would ban pride marches.
She also told the BBC in 2004 that she would not campaign in the London borough of Camden, because there were “too many gays”.
