US: Indiana and Wisconsin ask Supreme Court to rule on gay marriage
The states of Indiana and Wisconsin on Tuesday asked the US Supreme Court to rule on same-sex marriage.
The attorney general in each state asked the court separately to decide whether same-sex marriage should be legal across all 50 states.
Arguing against a ruling by the US Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, however, both attorneys general have asked the court to reinstate their same-sex marriage bans.
Those on both sides of the same-sex marriage debate agree that the US Supreme Court should decide on the issue soon, to settle debates across the country.
There is no indication of when the high court will respond.
